Day 12

Image
Day 12: Today I sure did get my hours in! I woke up at around 7am to give myself enough time in the morning. I drove to campus and started my day with G block intro to lit. They were finishing up their artists statements and their art pieces and getting ready to show them at the library later on in the evening. I had quite a few laughs as always and got to continue getting to know them all. Next I actually went to assembly and didn't feel as washed up when I saw Trey's robot dance to Michael Jackson. Let me tell you, it was epic. Mickey mouse has got some serious moves. I walked to the first block of Culture and Conflict after that and we had our classic discussions that we always have. I edited Kelby's paper about her banned book and attempted to give ideas for their presentation at innovation night. I headed over to lunch and then came right back to see the presentation live for another block. They are going to kill it! The rest of the day pretty much consisted of dorm c...

Week #2 Reflection

Week two has now passed and I can’t believe I am graduating this weekend. What a wild ride. I’d like to reflect on a few moments from this week of fun. I have become homies with some of the freshmen and I’m so glad because I don’t know what other circumstance would bring me close to all of them. They are super fun and truthfully bring me an enormous amount of laughter each class. Mel still takes the cake for that competition and honestly forever will, however, the freshmen aren’t too far behind. Elibet’s relationship with all of them is awesome and you can easily tell how much they all respect her in the classroom which I think is pretty cool. She asserts her dominance but also has a very fun way of teaching and giving feedback to them. I feel as though her teaching style is really reflected in some of the kids in the sense that the majority of them are very outgoing and talkative, but also get their work done on time and still care very much about the tasks at hand. I think that’s the...

Day 11

Day 11: Another Friday homie, let's go. May 19th I had quite the day. I woke up and got Tuckers with Sasha. I then went to the second block of Culture and Conflict where we went over the Buzz article made by my studious classmates about Banned Books and whether or not they should be banned/able to be taught in schools. It's a really interesting topic and my previous classmates are quite the intelligent group of humans. I recommend the read! I proceeded to have a relatively chill lunch and then got the opportunity to teach G block all by myself without Ms. Elibet. Elibet had a wedding to attend so I took charge. They just had a work period and majority slayed that and took advantage of that time. Pretty lowkey Friday. Afterwards Anna and I went on a nice half run half walk type workout on the rail trail and had a time.  Hours today: 2.5 hours  Total hours: 48 hours

Day 10

Day 10: I'd say today was pretty uneventful but still another crazy wicked day of senior project. I woke up and hung out with Gramps while we drank coffee. I headed over to campus with Annabelle at around 9:30 and only had F block Intro to Lit. as my class today. Many of them are nearly done with their art projects that goes with their capstone and they are starting to look really good! I got lunch and headed to my dorm room to chill and nap for a quick sec. BUT BEFORE THAT! I graded G blocks 57 Bus test for two hours into my lunch. I sent it over to lunch to get something yummy. I sure do love tortellini. JV lax had HUGE game . Lowkey lost but that's okay. I ventured to the play later for a little bit and it was SO good too. Great Proctor Mems Hours today: 4.5 hours Kelly this published on May 22 but I promise I had it done on thursday night and had thought I pressed post

Day 9

Day 9: Good evening everyone. Day 9 done and gone, and here I am finally home after Elibet's extra help. I had a solid sleep and woke up around 7:30. I got up and ate some breakfast and headed to school with Annabelle. We rocked to some Bob Marley and just straight up vibed. I immediately headed to Culture and Conflict to watch Colin Shavers concentration presentation and he killed it. It was so informative and actually super inspiring! I then went to G block intro to lit. They worked on their art pieces and I attempted again to give some ideas. A couple of them got some pretty creative ones! It was mostly a work period and then Elibet and I cleaned up and hitched it to lunch. Game was cancelled today so we instead practiced and then I watched games around campus. I helped out at dish duty and then went to my typical 7:30 to 9:30 Wednesday night extra help at Elibet's. I barged in to her apartment and Justin was clearly pondering some math on the couch but wasn't shocked by...

Day 8

Image
Day 8: 8th day woot woot! Time flies man. I woke up shockingly early this Tuesday morning with the thought of bluebird in my mind. I had to get their early and get a nice muffin. Gramps still made me some eggs and bacon though, he's the goat. Enough about food, I went to advisory and then went to Culture and Conflict to watch sweet Nora present her concentration presentation. She absolutely slayed that. Next I headed to lunch and then spent my afternoon with the freshman. G block they took a test and I wandered around the classroom glancing at their computers to again, make sure they didn't cheat. As you can see in the photo, Patrick Moore took the "open note" test quite literally with his library of notes. Following G block was F block and they had a work period on their art for the capstone project they are working on. I gave a few kids my feedback on their ideas and helped sprout some more ideas. I headed for a run with Anna and Olivia afterwards and then did a ni...

Day 7

Day 7:  Here we go again! Day 7 man, can't believe were already a week in. I woke up around 6:30 today to finish grading the stack of papers that Elibet gave me last week and had them all done by 8:20. As soon as I finished, I headed to one of the freshman Intro to Lit classes and saw what they all were coming up with for an art piece for the capstone project. I also got to revise a couple of their narratives once again. Following class, I hauled it over to Elibet's house and sat on her couch and made the 57 Bus Test for G block because the block schedule causes them to be slightly behind. I did that for about 2 hours and then headed to the dining hall for a yummy sandwich. At that point, I had done about 5.5 hours for the day so I was set to kind of enjoy the rest of my day. We had study hall for lax practice today and then I went with my wonderful advisory to Little Brothers Burgers for an advisory dinner. Nuala and I grubbed hard. I came back, talked with Bridget for a whi...

Week #1 Reflection

Senior project has been quite the time the last week or so. Hardly working, but feeling like I have a little more freedom through being a day student is a whole new lifestyle I hadn’t even known about! I very much enjoy waking up, and talking to my Gramp while he makes me breakfast. I learned a whole bunch with the freshman and with Culture and Conflict and have really been liking getting to know them. I think sometimes they think of me as a friend but honestly I think it is a good balance. I have read many of their personal narratives and learned a lot about their own individual experiences. Right now, they are writing about a right that they feel has been personally violated in their lives and further go on to connect it to either readings in Intro to Lit. or their research that they’ve done in their World History class. Reading many stories, I’m coming to understand who they are as students and how I can help them and give my feedback.  Did I like what I was doing? Of course I d...

Day 6

Image
Day 6: My sixth day of senior project was indeed on a Saturday because I'm just that awesome. I woke up and drove down for the G block freshman class and B block Culture and Conflict. We met in the dining hall for G block and Elibet brought me a yummy smoothie. I edited a few of the freshman's papers and discussed various ideas with Culture and Conflict. It was a solid but easy Saturday of classes. Nora and I made the trek down to Cohasset and got to hit the beach before some of the other homies arrived after their lax game. Overall,  very epic day and the weather was just unreal. Doing my calculations and I already have 25.5 hours!

Day 5

Image
Day 5: My fifth day of my wonderful senior project began quite peacefully. I woke up and talked to my Gramp and my dad while I drank some coffee and continued to grade papers. God damn I'm old! I sat outside in the sun until about 9:30 when Annabelle and I departed and drove to campus. I had a nice field trip to New London with Culture and Conflict where we went and sat in a pretty gazebo and talked about their banned book projects. We honestly sat and talked for quite a long time there, all the way through lunch! It was awesome. I love C and C. Following that, I came back and chilled for a little before G block intro to lit class. I helped a few people edit their narratives and laughed quite a bit with some goons in that class. Afterwards, I sprinted to the bus for my big lax game and came out with a 3-3 tie. I shoved my face with pizza and then hung out with some homies before returning to my gramps for a nice night with Annabelle.  Hours today: 5.5

Day 4

Image
Day 4:  On this nice sunny Thursday, I completed a plethora of things. I woke up on the earlier side to get to New London so I could grab myself breakfast before attending class at 10:15. The freshman had a test on the 57 bus so I walked around behind their computers to make sure they couldn’t cheat for a solid hour. Elibet and I stayed after and went over some curriculum details, just teacher things. Afterwards, I went to the dining hall to grab something for lunch and continued to grade papers outside on one of the tables with Katherine. I did that for a little bit over an hour and then went on a 3 mile run on the rail trail. I came back and played kickball as well as dipped my feet in Blackwater with my killer lax team. Sidenote: my kickball team won 7-1 and we had some pretty sick catches in the outfield by some savage freshman who I gladly picked first and second during the draft teams. They slayed. After the kickball and the river fun, I went to elbow to go for a quick swim w...

Day 3

Day 3:    Today began around 8 am when I woke up naturally. I rustled around in bed for a little bit before actually getting up to get ready. My Gramps made me scrambled eggs and bacon and I set out on my third day of a lovely senior project with a Culture and Conflict class at 10:15. Being with my old classmates is always comforting and we had some good discussions about various ideas to help them out for their incoming future. I met with Elibet for an hour afterwards and crafted up a test for the F block freshman students to give to them tomorrow. I went to eat lunch after with Katherine and Nora and then came back quite quickly to leave for my JV lax game :) It was a trek from 2-730pm pretty much for the 40 of us but we came back with a 9-1 win. As soon as I arrived back, I directly went to Elibet's extra help to help some freshmen with their personal narratives and their writing and also grade more of their papers when I had a moment. I left to go home around 9:...

Day 2

Day 2:  Day 2: My second day of senior project was full of learning moments and certainly a great amount of teaching. I woke up at my Gramps house and ate some breakfast. I headed to school with my dear friend Annabelle and arrived a little before 10 to start my day with Culture and Conflict. Being a student in Culture and Conflict for the entirety of this year, I found it quite difficult to flip to the other side and be more of a teacher figure to my previous classmates. I don’t think that was the strongest part of my day as I had to debrief with Elibet and Mel after. Elibet and I ate lunch together and talked more about what I needed to accomplish with the freshman.  I made a comeback when I taught the freshman in G and F block. I began each class with an activity that was a “get to know me” type of game so I could understand more about the students and also master their names. I provided feedback on their personal narratives in both classes with multiple students and ...

Day 1

Day 1: My first day of senior project was chill but still very work heavy. I arrived at school and attended assembly and honestly felt pretty washed up. I then went to meet with my mentor, Elibet, and went over what I needed to know for the freshman curriculum. We talked about the papers I had to grade and the book I had to read and catch up on for class discussions. We also made a spreadsheet calculating my hours and what I wanted and needed to accomplish for senior project! I went to lunch with some homies and then proceeded to meet with Elibet again to actually grade my first paper and go through some rubrics. I went to lacrosse afterwards and ate some dinner. I proceeded to venture back to my Gramps house and read and grade some more papers that are due for the end of this week. Woohoo! Hours today: 3.5 hours
